Clinical Trials/Research

California Breast Cancer Research Program
These studies are funded by donations made by residents of the state of California with an income tax check-off option. Clinical trials funded with this money have all been reviewed by an institutional Review Board that includes Consumer Advocates.

Cancer Registries
Source of registries that you and your family can register with. These registries are made available to scientists who wish to study familial breast cancer.

This site is run by CenterWatch, a publishing company that focuses on the clinical trials industry throughout the country. PREDICT
This website was developed as a supplement to the PREDICT CD-ROM. Knowledge about cancer genetics is growing rapidly. This web site will help keep you informed. It is neither for nor against testing. The goal is simply to provide information to help you make good decisions. NeedyMeds
NeedyMeds is the place to learn about patient assistance programs and other programs designed to help those who can't afford their medicines. NeedyMeds is not a program. It's an information source. The website lists drug companies that could provide financial assistance to patients needing to purchase drugs that each drug company manufactures. Also: 1-215-625-9609 (Philadelphia).

Partnership for Prescription Assistance
Partnership for Prescription Assistance is a program of the Pharmaceutical Researchers and Manufactures of America (PhRMA) designed to increase awareness of patient assistance programs and help eligible patients enroll in these programs.

This website supplies information about drug manufacturers that could provide free drugs to those who need them. There are applications to apply for the drugs on the site, as well as links for drug information, healthcare, and pharmaceutical companies.

The Cost Containment Research Institute
Many major drug companies provide free or low cost medication. The institute publishes an alphabetical listing of all the drugs that are available to people for free or at very low cost directly from the manufacturer. The booklet gives hard to find information on how and where to get free and low cost prescription drugs. Fertile Hope is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to providing reproductive information, support and hope to cancer patients whose medical treatments present the risk of infertility.

An United Kingdom organization offering support and information to those affected by breast cancer.

Willow Breast Cancer Support and Resource Services
Willow is a national breast cancer organization (Canada) that provides information and support free of charge to women diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as to their families, friends and caregivers. It is the only breast cancer organization of its kind in Canada, and it has helped thousands of women negotiate their way through a difficult health care system, and make difficult decisions about the kind of treatment and care that's right for them. Only at Willow are women able to speak with survivors of breast cancer, who have the compassion and empathy to share their experiences and hard-learned lessons.

Cancer Care is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to provide free professional help to people with all cancers through counseling, education, information and referral and direct financial assistance.

Georgetown University Health Policy Initiative
The Georgetown University Health Policy Institute has written A Consumer Guide For Getting And Keeping Health Insurance for each state and the District of Columbia, fifty-one in all. These Consumer Guides are available at this web site and will be updated periodically as changes in federal and state policy warrant. They also offer a free e-mail newsletter that can be subscribed to from their site.

Healthcarechoices
Health Care Choices is a New York not-for-profit corporation dedicated to educating the public about the nation's health care system. Their goal is to assist patients, consumers and other purchasers of health care services, such as employers, understand and navigate the complexities of this system.

NBCC Quality Care Guide
The National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund (NBCCF) created this guide to help BC patients. It includes advice about getting quality breast cancer care. It is available in PDF format.

Patient Advocate Foundation
The Patient Advocate Foundation is a national non- profit organization that serves as a liaison between the patient and insurer, employer and/or creditor to resolve insurance, job retention and/or debt crisis matters relative to their diagnosis through case managers, doctors and attorneys. They seek to safeguard patients through effective mediation assuring access to care, maintenance of employment and preservation of their financial stability. Hadassah, Women's Health
Hadassah's Breast Health Awareness includes the Check it Out program for teens and adults. The goal of the Hadassah Check It Out high school program is to teach 11th and 12th grade girls breast self-examination. This program encourages young people to get into the habit of monthly self-examinations so that they can take responsibility for keeping themselves well.

Heavenly Hats
Started in 2001 by then 10 year old Anthony Leanna, the Heavenly Hats program donates brand- new hats to cancer patients who lose their hair due to cancer treatments. Since he started this program, Anthony has received donations of more than 60,000 brand new hats and has been able to ship them to more than 160 hospitals and clinics around the United States.

ProjectAWARE
ProjectAWARE was created by women, for women. The Association of Women for the Advancement of Research & Education was an idea born out of frustration, frustration regarding lack of beneficial and comprehensive health care information available to women today. So two women, one from Kansas and one from New York, with the same idea came together in an effort to get that information to as many women as possible.

Witness Project
Black women who have survived breast or cervical cancer serve as witness role models who "witness" or testify about their own experiences in churches and other community settings.
